Body Shop

Body Shop, a group show of emerging artists from the Middle East and Asia, highlights the myriad cultural influences that artists from these regions address in their depictions of the human figure- from Euro- American practises of representational art, to local artistic traditions and popular media. Body Shop will include works on paper, paintings and mixed media works by Kiran Chandra, Debasish Manna, Baseem Rayyes and Grace Yung Ting Teng.

David Gray@ Dubai Jazz Festival 08

***New***PhOtos of the DeSeRt RHythM FesTiVal by HiNd MeZainA***

The head-bobbing David Gray graced us with hits such as "Sail Away With Me","Please Forgive Me","The Other Side","Babylon"and"The One I Love"at the recent Dubai Jazz Festival. Highlights of the night were terrible video coverage of the event, a bitch fight including flinging beers and women trying to tear each other's eyeballs out, and Taimur stroking Dhruv's ear (you had to be there).

Monsieur Gray was a crowd-pleaser with much singing along and fancy stage lighting effects. We were lucky enough to have great bean-bag seats (thanks T!)but couldn't quite make it to the bar due to massive overcrowding.

I skipped Robin Gibb the following night though and also missed some of my friends' performances at the Festival, including Nadine Thouin, Paul Akiki and Assaad Lakkis(Abstrakt Collision). So I didn't get to make the most of the Fest unfortunately.

I did however cram in one luscious night at Tamanya Terrace, Radisson SAS,Media City. I went to see Lovisa Lindkvist and Cormac Kenevey with Mrs. D and it was a perfect Dubai winter evening: stars, soft lilting jazz, glitzy crowd and cheap wine with a slight shiver-inducing breeze.

We've extended our family

Ok there are a LOT of posts that need to be addressed here - The Talvin Singh concert, David Gray concert, full moon drumming, the review of Persepolis, a new painting I've done and what to expect of the upcoming Gulf Art Fair, Creek Art Fair and Dubai International Fashion Week.

But none of that is exciting as the arrival of our new puppy. She joins Duke, Skye and Mr.Yale and will be taking up a permanent residence sleeping on my feet. We're still coming up with names so any suggestions are welcome!Has to begin with the letter "D"!

I'll add the other posts soon I promise.

No Country For Old Men

No role for old Tommy Lee Jones

I couldn't find a gun so I just converted some old diving equipment into a weapon

Javier reacts to his new haircut

Llewellyn - the name says it all.

This poster thinks it's actually a poster for The Mummy. circa 1999.

With all the accolades showered on "No Country For Old Men" we forced oursevles to sit through hours of suffering hoping to see what the fuss was all about. After much covering eyes, scrutinising Javier Bardem's haircut, and generally cringing at the Southern accents, we walked out somewhere, we hope, near the end of the film.

What a bloody bore this film is. Don't watch it unless your a fan of desaturated film color grading.

Actually, under no circumstances watch this film.
